Mermalade is a project I started last summer mostly as a joke. There’s a story with these characters but I really shouldn’t be starting new projects right now.
(Jetsam is based on an eel/anglerfish, and flotsam is a flatfish. They have a Dipper and Mabel Pines dynamic. Also, I’ve been asked this before so just to clarify: Jetsam is a boy.)

He’s a peacock mantis shrimp and I love him and that’s really all there is to say on the matter
Mica
The art quality on this one is very substandard. It’s really just a doodle-y reference so I know what his design is supposed to look like. Also, he’s a human. The drawing of him with a tail is more of a hypothetical.
Sky
She’s a flying fish. There’s not much else to say about her really
Luce & Shay
They’re bounty hunters. Luce is a blacktip reef shark with dolphin influences and Shay is a generic cephalopod.
Wyatt & Star
As you can see by my reference images, they’re nudibranchs, which are a criminally underappreciated type of sea slug. Go look them up right now!
Pom
She’s based on a frog because she’s a member of my mer-amphibian species. This isn’t her regular outfit. She prefers to just swim around in the marshes hunting with her friends, but in this case she’s dressed up nice. I think she was supposed to be a princess or something??????

That’s all the mermalade OC art I have! Eventually I’ll post a follow-up with the real person mermaidsona art (boofs: magical mermaid adventure). This whole project was kind of dumb but I had fun, so whatever.
